Remember that thing a couple of months back about Facebook having over 500 million users/members on their site? Now, what if you could make one sale to 1% of this group over the next year. Would you do it? If you are saying "NO", please exit stage left because clearly you are afraid of success. If you said a resounding "YES!" then keep reading about why creating a Facebook Fan page will probably be one of the smartest moves that you make this year. In this post, I am going to show you 5 free and simple tips that you can implement in order to get the most out of your Fan page.
#1 Creating a Fan Page
This is NOT your personal page. If your current page shows "friends" instead of "fans" then here is what you need to do next:
Go to your profile and scroll down to "Ads and Pages", and click on the link.
After clicking you will see a menu to the left, scroll down and click on "pages":
Next it will bring you to the page where you can create a New page. Name your page and you now have a new Facebook Fan page.
#2 Uploading a profile picture
After creating your fan page, next you want to upload an image that is representative of your brand. This could be a logo or vertical banner. You want to make sure that the dimensions measure 200x600 pixels. This allows maximum usage of the space that Facebook offers. Instead of a small picture that you can barely see, why not have a large banner that is immediately visible and makes your page stand out? Here is an example of my banner on my fan page:
Trust me, the larger 200x600 image rocks so much harder than the standard image that most businesses upload.
#3 Creating a landing page
This is just as important as your profile image. This is where all fan page traffic should pass through first before going to your wall. Here you should have a linkable image that goes directly to your personal site. That could be a Twitter page, Youtube channel, or a website. If you are feeling fabulous, all three. Here is an example of my Welcome page below:
Now here is how you can achieve a fabulous welcome page. Type into your Facebook search bar "FBML app" and click on the link. You want to click to add the app to your page. You will then select the page that it is added to. After selecting, go back to your main page..here is how you will locate your FBML app.
Go to the top of your fan page, for the new Facebook layout the edit options are located at the top. Click the link and you will see the following sidebar.
Scroll down to your "Apps" and click the link. In the list that comes up you should see "FBML - FBML". This is the app for your landing page.
Click on "Edit Settings" and then click "Add" on the blue pop up box, and then "Okay". This adds the tab to your left hand sidebar. After that click on "Go to your App", this is where all of the magic happens.
Start off by changing the title of the page from "FBML" to "WELCOME" or whatever you'd prefer.
For this next step you will need to have a photobucket account where you can host the images that will be on your Welcome/Landing page. This will allow you to create clickable links to your different sites. Here is a sample of the"html code" that you will copy from photobucket and paste into your FBML box:
< a href="http://This is the website where you want your image to link to">
< img src="http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd501/matriarcmedia/ChicktrepreneurTeesbanner1-1.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket" ></a>
After pasting the html code and saving to your FBML box you will notice that the image you uploaded to Photobucket is now on your welcome page. You can view it by simply going back to your main page and clicking "Welcome" on the left side of your fan page. If you click on the image, it will take you to the website you specified. To add more images, repeat these steps. If you want to really be fancy, have a graphic designer create custom images for your welcome page, host them on Photobucket, upload them and add your website links to them.
Note: If you do not change the < a href > website data, your image will link back to Photobucket.
#4 Product Images
These are important because they give a visual to your visitor that you have inventory. Maybe they stumbled upon your page by accident, if you are showcasing your products they may be interested enough to want to purchase them. Show off yourself using or wearing your items as well as have customers upload themselves wearing what they've bought from you. These are called fan photos and provide some validity to your business.
#5 Relevant Updated Content
Your brand is nothing without content. Facebook is vital because you can update as often as you'd like. Its almost as important as your website, which unless you are a designer or developer and you have a professional site, you cannot update as frequently. Don't let your fan page turn into a ghost town. If you are too busy to update, then you probably are to busy to market your business. Facebook is quickly becoming an integral part of every brands marketing plan.
Hopefully these tips will help you to achieve an awesome fan page and the "Likes" will come flooding in. If you've found this information helpful please register and become a member of my blog and add any tips or suggestions that YOU might have for our readers.
